Providence Heart Institute Announces Winners of 2005 Red Dress Campaign Art Contest For Kids

Students from four local elementary schools and two local middle schools have been selected as winners for Providence Heart Institute’s Red Dress Campaign 2005 Red Dress Art Contest For Kids.

This year’s contest received 220 entries from students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The entries were split into three categories consisting of: kindergarten through second grade, third through fifth grade and sixth through eighth grade. In each category a first and second place winner was chosen.

First place winner in the kindergarten through second grade category is Shabrea Lloyd, second grade, from Gadsden Elementary and the second place winner is McCrae Watson, second grade, from Lugoff Elementary.

In the third through fifth grade category, first place went to Mary Hong, third grade, from Harbison West Elementary and second place to Kristen Clark, third grade, from Dutch Fork Elementary.

The sixth to eighth grade category winners are Anthony Parrot, eighth grade, from Camden Middle School in first place and Carson Hall, eighth grade, from Dutch Fork Middle School in second place.

All first place winners in each category receive a $50 cash prize and second place winners receive a $25 cash prize, and the winning entries are on display in the Dillard’s court, on the lower level at Columbia Place Mall.

The contest was open to all kindergarten through eighth grade students from Richland, Lexington, Fairfield and Kershaw Counties and had to incorporate the theme of the Red Dress Campaign and use the symbol of the “red dress,” to remind women to stay heart healthy.

Congratulations is also extended to the teachers of the winning students: Mrs. Odell, Gadsden Elementary, Mrs. Munn, Lugoff Elementary, Mr. Harry Williams, Harbison West Elementary, Mrs. Ruby Clark, Dutch Fork Elementary, Ms. Halley, Camden Middle School and Mr. Sparkman from Dutch Fork Middle School.

Providence Heart Institute would like to congratulate all the winners and thank everyone who submitted artwork. The second annual art contest is one of several activities associated with the hospital’s Red Dress Campaign, which uses the visual of a red dress to help communicate that heart disease is not just a man’s disease and is the number one cause of death among women.
