CARDIOVASCULAR AND THORACIC SURGERY More than 24,000 open-heart procedures have been performed since Providence Heart Institute opened its doors in 1974. Today, Providence performs more open-heart surgery procedures than any other hospital in South Carolina. Our comprehensive range of services available includes cardiothoracic surgery with valve replacement and repair, coronary artery bypass graft, beating heart bypass, carotid endarterectomy, peripheral vascular surgery and internal cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) surgery. After an open-heart procedure, patients receive extensive nursing care and continuous observation in our 10-bed Cardiovascular Surgery Recovery Unit (CSR).
