2002 SC Heartwalk
Providence -Mended Hearts Chapter 189 Group at the American Heart Walk, March 25, 2006
On a beautiful spring day members of Mended Hearts Chapter 189 assembled at the Colonial Center for the American Heart Walk. Dressed in Providence Heart Institute light blue shirts with the message "When it comes to your heart Providence is the only place you want to be", they joined the parade of 4600 walkers and set forth on the 3.3 mile route. About an hour and ten minutes later, they had completed their task with enthusiasm and spirit.
Among the walkers were Ted Evans, Mary Alice Akers, Andy and Ema Dell McMahon with their Grand Niece, Michelle Parsons, and Ray and Faye Efird. Montague Thompson attended the ceremony before the Heart Walk started and cheered the participants on.
At the last of January our committee met with the members of the American Heart Association staff for instructions and supplies. What followed was an extensive letter writing campaign by Ted Evans, Vincent Bachetta, Mary Alice Akers, Ray and Faye Efird, and Emma Dell and Andy McMahon with good results.
We raised $3,030.00 for the American Heart Walk. These funds will be used for research and education to fight heart disease.
A special thanks goes to the committee and the entire membership of the Mended Hearts Chapter 189 for their splendid support of the American Heart Walk.
It was another great campaign.
Andy McMahon, Chairman, Mended Hearts Chapter 189 American Heart Walk.
